I think your advice is very good. However, I would do a few more
things about this. Note that the Original Poster (OP) says that the
accuser complained to "her supervisor" which implies that they are not
in the same work group, which is a very lucky break actually.
First, I would avoid interacting with the accuser at all in any way.
Certainly avoid any social/personal interactions. Any work-related
requests should be funneled through the OP's supervisor, since "he
decides my work priorities and can determine how and when your request
can be done." If the environment is sufficiently bad, the OP may also
need to avoid her allies as well.
Second, the OP must discuss with his supervisor, and indicate that he
feels "unfairly treated," that he apologized "under duress," perhaps
"this seems like slander to me," etc. Remain calm and business-like,
and do not make threats or extreme statements. Indicate that your ONLY
goal is to "accomplish my work-related tasks as well as possible," and
ask him for his support in the future.
If he is supportive, then GREAT! Otherwise you may need to look for a
new job. It really depends on the attitude of your direct management,
whether they support you in the long run.
